Snake Identifier turns your phone into a field guide for snakes, led by the venom level the species carries. Photograph one in the yard, on a trail or behind glass and get a likely match.

WHAT ONE PHOTO GIVES YOU
- The common name, and an alternate name if there is one
- The venom level the species carries, from a closed set of five
- The Latin scientific name and family, or the genus alone
- Habitat, native range and adult length
- Venom type, as species background: hemotoxic, neurotoxic, cytotoxic or mixed
- What it preys on, and how it behaves when disturbed
- Look-alike species, each with its venom category and what separates them
- A confidence level on every match

WHAT THE VENOM LEVEL FIELD IS
The venom level opens every result, a short label from a fixed set: Non-venomous, Mildly venomous, Venomous, Deadly venomous, and Unknown when a photo will not carry one of the four. The five stay distinct: mildly venomous is not a soft form of non-venomous. The label belongs to the species the match names, not to the animal in front of you, and it is a category, never a number or score. It describes a species; it is not permission to go nearer, and the app's own line is to keep your distance.

IN THE YARD, ON THE TRAIL, BEHIND GLASS
Point the camera at a snake, or pick a photo you already have. Rat snakes and garter snakes in a suburban yard. Rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths in North America, adders in Europe, cobras and vipers in Asia and Africa. Corn snakes, ball pythons and kingsnakes in a collection. Something that is not a snake comes back with low confidence, not an invented name.

WHAT SEPARATES TWO SNAKES THAT LOOK ALIKE
Head shape, pupil shape, scale keeling, dorsal color and banding feed the match, and most sit in the head, so a photo without head detail returns lower confidence. Every result lists the look-alikes a species is confused with, each with its venom category and the separating trait: a cottonmouth against a banded water snake, a coral snake against a scarlet kingsnake. When a photo cannot separate two species, this snake identifier stops at the genus or family and says so.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT A PHOTO CAN DO
An identification here is a best-effort AI suggestion, not an authoritative determination. Several venomous species have a non-venomous look-alike in the same range, so a result narrows to a genus or family when a photo cannot carry a species. What comes back is information about a species, not an assessment of the animal in front of you. The app does not give first aid or bite treatment, and a suspected snake bite is an emergency: call your local emergency number. It is not a handling, removal, husbandry or veterinary guide.

Identification needs an internet connection. Scans you have already saved stay on your device and can be reopened at any time.

The app interface and the results are available in 33 languages.

Free includes 2 identifications per day. Premium lifts the daily limit, opens the full detail sheet and adds the chat thread. It never changes what the app tells you about a species' venom. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and you can manage or cancel yours in your Google Play account settings at any time.
