Vegan Check reads the ingredients list on a packaged food and gives you one clear reading with the reason behind it: Vegan, Not Vegan, or May Not Be Vegan.

Point the camera at the back of the pack. This vegan food scanner transcribes the ingredients list, names every animal-derived ingredient on it, flags every additive whose source a label cannot settle, and says which one decided the reading.

THE READING LEADS THE RESULT
You are in an aisle holding a packet, reading a four-point ingredients list with a code like E471 in it. The reading sits above the product name, the reason directly beneath. One glance gives the answer, the line under it says why.

IT SAYS MAY NOT BE VEGAN WHEN THE LABEL LEAVES IT OPEN
Refined sugar that may be bone-char filtered. Natural flavors. Mono- and diglycerides. Glycerin. Lecithin with no source stated. Unspecified enzymes. Stearates. Vitamin D3. None of these can be settled from a pack, so this food scanner does not pretend otherwise. It names them one at a time with the concern attached, and tells you to check the packaging or ask the brand. If the ingredients list is folded, curved, glare-washed or cut off, that part is unknown, not fine. A vegan reading that did not reach high confidence is shown as doubtful too. This app will not give a green all-clear it cannot back.

THE ANIMAL INGREDIENTS AND E-CODES IT LOOKS FOR
Whey, casein, lactose, milk solids. Egg, albumen, honey, beeswax. Gelatin, carmine and cochineal, shellac, isinglass, rennet, lanolin, L-cysteine. Anchovy in a Worcestershire sauce. E120, E441, E471, E322, E904, E901, E422. European packs print E-numbers where American packs print plain names, and this label scanner reads both, so a word or a code you did not recognize comes back explained.

SWAPS FOR THE PRODUCT IN YOUR HAND
When a food does not qualify, the result suggests plant-based alternatives for that exact item: pectin-set gummies instead of gelatin ones, a whey-free protein bar, naturally coloured sweets instead of carmine ones.

Every result opens into Ask AI, a conversation that stays on ingredients and additives. What an E-number is made from, why an additive is ambiguous, and how an ingredient differs from a "may contain" line.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT A PHOTO CAN DO
This app is an AI reading of the label in your photo. It is an estimate, not a vegan certification, and it is not an allergen check. It cannot see cross-contamination, "may contain" traces, or a recipe that changed after the pack was printed, and some additives cannot be resolved from a label at all. A "may contain milk" advisory describes a shared production line rather than the recipe, so the app shows it as an advisory and leaves that decision to you. If you have an allergy or you need certainty, confirm the full ingredient list with the manufacturer.

Reading a label needs an internet connection. Readings you have already saved stay on your device and open again at any time.
