About this app

Application developed by APA - Portuguese Environment Agency, IP, as a tool to quickly provide updated information, during the bathing season, on beaches and the quality of coastal, transitional or inland bathing waters in Mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Regions.

You can define your favorite beaches and get to know the water quality, awards awarded, existing equipment and services, as well as consult the latest bathing water quality analyses.

The information provided by the APA is complemented by daily meteorological forecast data, provided by the IPMA - Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, IP, as well as by tidal information provided by the Hydrographic Institute.
For beaches that offer this complement, it is still possible to view the images provided by the cameras in the place.

WATER QUALITY MONITORING
APA guarantees throughout the bathing season that analyzes are carried out to assess whether the waters are suitable for bathing, thus ensuring greater safety for you and your family.

BATHING WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT
Before the start of the bathing season and, based on the results obtained in the last 4 years, the APA classifies the quality of each bathing water as: "EXCELLENT", "GOOD", "ACCEPTABLE" or "BAD".

During the bathing season, the quality of the water is periodically assessed, verifying whether the suitability for bathing is maintained.

Whenever the quality values continue to allow bathing, it is considered "Adequate", if there is a value above the norm, it is considered "Inappropriate", and bathing use may be discouraged or even banned, temporarily or until the end of the bathing season.

STATUS OF OCCUPATION OF THE BEACH
In the current context, the greater concentration on beaches can result in an increased risk of contagion, if hygiene and safety rules are not adopted. The 2021 bathing season maintains the application of rules relating to circulation in accesses to the beach, bathing facilities and occupation of the bathing use area, in order to respect the recommended physical distance.

To avoid excessive affluence to beaches, concessionaires or local authorities, in the case of non-concessioned beaches, signal the status of occupation using the following color signage through flags at the beach entrance:
«Green» low occupancy, which corresponds to a usage of up to 50%;
«Yellow» high occupancy, which corresponds to a usage between 50% and 90%;
«Red» full occupancy, which corresponds to a usage of more than 90%.

Select in the app the beaches with low occupancy, guarded, with good quality and other important conditions for you.

Adopt safety practices and place your garbage in its proper container. Beaches are an invaluable asset and preserving them is everyone's duty!

Always keep a safe distance.
