About this app

Black Book is a private journal of every Guinness you drink, and the pubs you drink them in.

It is not a review site and not a leaderboard. There is nothing to win and nobody to beat.

LOG A PINT
Score the pour out of 10 — half points allowed — add a note about how it tasted, and keep a photo of the glass. Around 4,500 pubs across the island of Ireland are already on the map, so you find the pub and log the pint in a couple of taps. If yours is missing, add it — anywhere in the world, for the pint in London or Boston too.

YOUR JOURNAL, YOUR MAP, YOUR STATS
Every pint you log builds a history you can search by pub, note or place. See where you've been on a map of your own scores, and find out what you actually rate: your average score, your favourite pub, and how your scores spread.

COLLECT THE ISLAND
Every new pub earns a stamp, and stamps collect by county. Complete a county by visiting enough distinct pubs in it — any of them count, so the passport rewards exploring rather than working through a fixed list. 374 stamps to fill in all 32 counties.

YOUR JOURNAL IS PRIVATE
Nobody can read your entries. Not other users, not people browsing the app, not by accident. This is enforced by the database itself rather than by the app being polite about it, which means a bug in the app cannot expose your notes. Your photos are stored privately too.

FRIENDS, IF YOU WANT THEM
Find friends by name, username or email; they have to accept. Friends can read each other's journals and raise a glass to each other's pints, and when you log a pint you can choose to let them know where you are — one tap, off by default, decided pint by pint. The notification names the pub, never the score. Either of you can unfriend at any moment, and access disappears immediately in both directions. A search shows a name and username, never anyone's journal, and you can switch off being findable.

FIND A GOOD PINT
Pubs carry an average score from everyone who has rated them, so you can tell a reliable pint from an unknown one. You see the average and how many people it is based on — never anyone else's notes, photos, or name.

WHAT IT DOESN'T DO
No leaderboards. No public reviews. No follower counts. No ads. Nothing is shared anywhere unless you specifically choose to share it.
