About this app
We are an independent media that through citizen journalism aims to present the news from different perspectives, protected under a collective vision based on the principles of diversity and inclusion of all sectors of Costa Rican society.
We also function as a sociocultural management platform by providing a meeting and discussion space between the different actors of civil society
Why is Puntarenas Born?
Article 19 of the Declaration of Human Rights states:
“Every individual has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes that of not being disturbed because of their opinions, that of investigating and receiving information and opinions, and that of disseminating them, without limitation of borders, by any means of expression ”.
The mainstream media create a single version of the facts that is often detached from the vision of a large part of the Costa Rican population and seeks to build life in society in a certain way, excluding any thinking that differs. This disagreement with the centralization of the media in the country, led a group of people from various areas to start a project known as Puntarenas Se Oye in May 2015.
Our mission is to continue adding voices that come from all sectors of civil society, to individuals who are dissatisfied with the way in which information is manipulated for the benefit of a few and share our vision of forming a project that fights for the right to access and disseminate information that helps the development of Costa Ricans.
What if we read the other version of the facts?
The dominant media create a single version of what is happening, it is often detached from the vision of a large part of the Costa Rican population and seeks to build life in society in a certain way, excluding any thinking that differs.
This disagreement with the centralization of the media in the country, led a group of people from different visions to build a mechanism open to civil society so that they can transform their stories, into news, that can face the story traditional and consensual that the media manifest.
