About this app

The Child-Pugh classification of the severity of liver cirrhosis is an assessment technique that allows you to determine the severity of cirrhosis and patient survival over a certain period of time.

According to the Child-Pugh classification, the severity of liver cirrhosis is assessed by the sum of points scored based on the value of several parameters.

Depending on the points scored for all parameters, the class of cirrhosis is assigned

Class A – (Child A) 5-6 points
Class B – (Child B) 7-9 points
Class C – (Child C) 10-15 points

Life expectancy for patients with class A cirrhosis is about 15-20 years, the risk of death with abdominal surgery is about 10%.

With class B cirrhosis, life expectancy is about 10 years, the risk of mortality is 30%. Class B cirrhosis is an indication for consideration of liver transplantation.

Life expectancy for class C cirrhosis is 1-2 years, the risk of surgical mortality is about 80-90%, with this class of cirrhosis the patient needs a liver transplant.
