โ€ข Add your own words and categories easily: you can create your own word base you want to master first.
โ€ข Handy French flashcards with pictures and example sentences: helpful mental shortcuts to build your vocabulary and understand the nuances of word meaning and how these words are used in real practice.

This is absolutely the easiest flash card app to use. I've used a lot of different flash card apps but this one makes it so easy to add words that aren't in the deck. Plus you can customize the cards that are already in the deck with your own pictures and example sentences. If you want something with more customization then Anki is the way to go but it does take time to learn how to properly use it. This app also gives you the option to import Anki decks into it but I have not tried that yet.

Update: After the first categories of words, they stop giving examples altogether. I like some things about it, but there are two big drawbacks for me: they don't show all the conjugations when learning new verbs; and while it's nice that they give a lot of examples of new words, most of the examples are too advanced to be useful. And when a word has more than 1 definition, the examples don't usually include the other definitions.

Has everything you could need. Choose from different sets of words, includes French pronunciation and examples, offline use, reminders, and different review formats (e.g. text response, multiple choice). My favorite feature is that you can edit the words if, for example, you want to add synonyms to the definition or examples (not all words come with built-in examples and you might come across examples elsewhere that seem more relevant for you).
