When calculating the structures for strength, stability, or deflection, we somehow encounter the axial moment of inertia Ix / Iy, the moment of resistance Wx / Wy, the radii of inertia ix / iy, but it is not always possible to find these values in the grades, especially if the cross section non-standard or complex. It is for these purposes that this calculation was created to determine the geometric characteristics of the cross-section and the main task is to simply find all of the above values.
Operating procedure:
1. Select the desired cross-section (8 simple shapes - circle, round pipe, I-beam, channel, corner, rectangle, profile pipe and Taurus, also there are complex cross-sections from corners and channel bars)
2. Set the required cross-section dimensions
3. Press the button "Calculation"
All the values obtained will be summarized in the table below. Among them will be:
- cross-sectional area A
- the moment of resistance with respect to the x-axis - Wx
- moment of resistance with respect to the y axis - Wy
- moment of inertia about the x-axis - Ix
- moment of inertia about the y axis - Iy
- radius of inertia along the x axis - ix
- radius of inertia along the y axis - iy
- moment of resistance, moment of inertia, radius of inertia relative to the uv axis (for the angle) - Wuv, Iuv, iuv
For reference:
- all sections in the calculation do not have roundings on the shelves and walls, so the results will slightly differ from the values for the assortments
- for the sections from the corner (paired cross and single), the minimal moments for the main axes uv
