About this app

Signum is a unique voice in the Swedish press. An independent cultural magazine that writes about a wide range of issues around faith, culture, research and society against the background of the worldwide Catholic perspective. We shed light on current topics in the public debate. We publish articles on existential, theological, philosophical and ethical issues. We write about research in the field of humanities. We comment on literature, art, film and music. We inform about what is happening in the Catholic Church both in Sweden and around the world. We stand for an open, wide-ranging dialogue with other communities and religions. We provide space for deepening and reflection. And we attach importance to publishing high-quality texts, among other things because many of our articles are written by researchers and subject representatives from academia.

Signum was started in 1975 as a sequel to Credo, a Catholic magazine founded in 1920 and KIT, Catholic Information Service, founded in 1963. Signum has been published since 2001 by the Newman Institute, a Catholic university of theology, philosophy and culture based in Uppsala, established by the Jesuits in Sweden and employees the magazine Signum. The editorial staff includes Catholic lay people, nuns and priests. Among other things, the two international Jesuit and Dominican organizers are represented there. Signum, on the other hand, is not an official body of the Catholic Church in Sweden. We share the Catholic view that reason, the ability to think, is a gift that man can and should use in all areas of life.

The paper edition of Signum is published in 8 issues per year. Here on our website is the continuous, up-to-date update of Signum's production. Here is also the archive with almost all material published in Signum since the start in 1975 and a digital pdf archive from and 2012.
