The SISS-Geo — Wildlife Health Information System — is a citizen science platform that gathers georeferenced observations of wild animals to support health surveillance and disease prevention.
By registering an animal, its location, environmental characteristics, and photographs, you contribute to generating information that helps researchers and health professionals understand the occurrence and distribution of diseases in wildlife, especially those with the potential to affect humans. This information strengthens health surveillance and can support institutions of the Unified Health System (SUS) in identifying risk situations and making decisions, allowing the adoption of measures to prevent and mitigate diseases and other health problems, contributing to the protection of the health of animals, people, and the environment.
The SISS-Geo app for Android is lightweight, simple, and easy to use. It allows you to register observations online or offline, enabling data collection even in locations with little or no internet connection. Offline records can be sent later when a connection is available.
With SISS-Geo, you can:
* Register observations of wild animals and their characteristics.
* Report the animal's geographic location.
* Record characteristics of the environment where the observation was made.
* Add photographs to the records.
* Make offline records and send them later.
* Consult your records and the location of the observations.
* Consult the registered photographs.
* Register as a collaborator, specialist, or health professional.
* Register institutions.
* Send suggestions, questions, and criticisms about the system.
The information collected by SISS-Geo contributes to expanding knowledge about the health of wildlife and identifying patterns and signs important for disease surveillance. This data can support researchers and agencies responsible for the surveillance and prevention of diseases, contributing to the protection of the health of animals and people.
The SISS-Geo system is part of the Wildlife Health Information Center (CISS) of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), in partnership with the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC).
