Písmenko teaches children the Slovak alphabet — the shape of each letter, the sound it makes, and the first words built out of them.
The app is entirely in Slovak, spoken and written. It is for families raising a child with Slovak: at home, abroad, or in a house where only one parent speaks it. If you are looking for an English alphabet app, this is not one.
WHAT A CHILD DOES
• Hears every letter spoken aloud, and sees its shape drawn large and plain
• Meets the letters that belong to Slovak and to almost nothing else — ä and ô, the long vowels, and the digraphs dz, dž and ch
• Puts the marks on themselves: the mäkčeň turns c into č, the dĺžeň turns a into á, and the letter and the sound change together on the screen
• Builds simple words letter by letter
• Moves at their own pace. Nothing is timed, nothing is scored, and stopping costs nothing
QUIET BY DESIGN
No advertisements. No in-app purchases. No account, no sign-in, nothing to subscribe to.
Písmenko does not ask for internet access at all. It cannot send anything anywhere, and a child cannot be shown something the app did not ship with. It works with the device in flight mode. Which letters a child has already heard is remembered on the device and goes no further.
The links that would leave the app sit behind a parental gate.
