Pick the content you'd rather know about before reading or watching. Search any book, film, or show. See exactly what's inside.
Foreword is a calm, private lookup tool for content warnings — sometimes called trigger warnings, content notes, or reader cautions.
Pick the topics you'd rather be warned about (a dog dies, sexual assault, gun violence, eye trauma — whatever it is for you). Then search any title. Foreword tells you what's in it and where.
WHY FOREWORD
• No accounts. No login. Your trigger list lives on your phone, not on our servers.
• No advertising. No analytics SDKs. No tracking.
• Direct disclosure — we show you the actual warning names ("contains: a dog dies, gun violence"), not vague color-coded badges.
• Three independent data sources for broad coverage:
* Crowd-verified votes from DoesTheDogDie.com
* Reader-curated book lists from triggerwarningdatabase.com
* AI analysis from Claude (Anthropic) for titles neither has yet — always clearly labeled as AI-assisted
HOW IT WORKS
1. On first launch, browse 36 categories of content warnings (Animal Death, Sexual Assault, Mental Health, Self Harm, Sex, Whole Body, Abuse, and many more). Tap a category to flag the whole group, or expand to pick specifics.
2. Search any book, film, TV show, game, or podcast. Foreword checks our database first, falls back to DoesTheDogDie, then asks Claude to identify obscure or recent titles. AI-identified results are labeled with a "Best guess" badge when confidence is low.
3. Open any result to see:
• Every content warning the data has for the title
• How it's depicted (graphic / detailed / recounted / off-page / implied)
• Which warnings match your personal list
For books, you'll also see the genre, heat level (for romance), and a one-line tone summary.
GOOD FOR
• Readers in the BookTok and romance communities who want to know what's in a dark romance before starting
• Anyone with specific avoidance triggers — trauma survivors, parents previewing media, sensitive viewers
• People who simply like to know what they're walking into
PRIVACY
We don't have accounts because we don't need them.
Your selected triggers, your name (if you entered one), and your reading list stay on your device.
When you search, we send the query and your trigger IDs to our server, look up the answer, and send it back. We don't keep anything tied to you.
WHAT WE DON'T DO
• We don't recommend or score works. Foreword tells you what's in them; the decision is yours.
• We don't gate content. The whole catalog is searchable.
• We don't run subscriptions. Foreword is free.
DATA SOURCES & ATTRIBUTION
Foreword wouldn't exist without:
• DoesTheDogDie.com (community-voted trigger warnings)
• triggerwarningdatabase.com (reader-curated book content warnings)
Please consider supporting them.
