Hephaestus Fire Monitor

About this app

Hephaestus Fire Monitor watches the places you care about for wildfires and tells you when a fire is detected near them.

HOW IT WORKS
• Add your places: your home, a family member's house, land you look after.
• Satellite fire detections are checked against every place: EUMETSAT's geostationary fire detection every 30 minutes, and NASA FIRMS detections from the VIIRS and MODIS instruments.
• When a fire is detected within 30 km of a place, you get an alert on this phone and by email. As it comes closer you are alerted again at 10 km, 3 km and 1 km.

WHAT YOU SEE
• Home: each place, and every fire near it, with its distance, direction, size and the time it was detected.
• Map: the fires detected across the covered countries.
• Alerts: the alerts you have received.
• Action plan: for each place, write down when you start, your water, who does what and the way out.
• Settings: send yourself a test alert to check that alerts reach this phone.
• Share: send a fire's distance from your place and when it was detected to family or neighbours.

COVERAGE
37 countries: every EU country, plus Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
