About this app

Uma turns a modern Android phone back into something a parent or grandparent can actually use.

The home screen is a short list of large, clearly labelled rows - Contacts,
Messages, Phone, Weather, Camera, Photos - and nothing else. No app drawer, no widgets, no swiping between pages, nothing to accidentally rearrange or delete.

CONTACTS, NOT AN ADDRESS BOOK
Tapping Contacts shows the phone's own contacts in large type with their photos. Starred contacts come first, so the people who matter are at the top. Tap someone and there are two buttons: Call, and Send message. Nothing else to get wrong.

THE FAMILY SETS IT UP, ONCE
Everything is configured from a Setup section behind a PIN (000000), so it cannot be changed by accident. Choose which rows appear, pin any installed app, set the town for the weather, and change the PIN. There is also a route back to the phone's own settings and to the launcher picker, so you are never stuck.

WEATHER WORTH GLANCING AT
One big number, one word, and one line of advice - "Take an umbrella". No ten-day scrollable forecast, no adverts, no account.

UNREAD BADGES
A count on the Messages and Phone rows, so a missed call or an unread text is obvious without opening anything.

BUILT FOR EYES THAT ARE NOT WHAT THEY WERE
Large type throughout, high contrast, generous tap targets, and every row
labelled for screen readers. The type is already large, and grows further with the system font size setting.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
It does not collect anything. Contacts are read on the phone and never copied, stored or transmitted. The only thing that leaves the device is the coordinates of the weather town you choose. There are no adverts and no accounts.

AVAILABLE IN
English, Polish, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech and Slovak. On Android 13 and later, Uma's language can be set separately from the rest of the phone.

FREE FOR 7 DAYS
After that, a single one-time payment unlocks the Setup section. The phone
itself always keeps working - calls, messages and every row stay available whether you have paid or not.
