About this app

Aprakos (ancient Greek ἄπρακτος - non-working, festive) - a kind of Gospel or Apostle, otherwise called the "Weekly Gospel" or "Liturgical Gospel", in which the text is organized calendar, according to the weekly church readings. Aprakos are many ancient Slavic gospel manuscripts: Savvin's book, Ostromir gospel, Arkhangelsk gospel and others.

The application contains the Apostolic and Gospel readings read at all church services in 2023, in accordance with the charter of the Orthodox Church.

There are also liturgical instructions.

Dates follow the Gregorian calendar (New style).

There are five readings for each day:
1. in Church Slavonic with traditional spelling;
2. in Church Slavonic in civil type;
3. in Russian;
4. in Ukrainian;
5. in Greek.

Every day at the divine services of the Orthodox Church, small fragments of text from the Holy Scriptures are read.
Usually from the New Testament. Each fragment is numbered and called in Slavonic "conception".
At festive services, and especially during Great Lent, texts from the Old Testament are additionally read.
The beginnings are drawn up in such a way that the entire New Testament was read at church services during the year.
The countdown is from the day of Easter, so every year on the same calendar day the readings will be different.
This is explained by the fact that in the church calendar some of the memorable dates are tied to the Julian calendar, and some to Easter.

When can an application be useful?
1. If the acoustics in your temple are not good enough, you can follow what is being read on the phone. The Church Slavonic text is presented both in traditional orthography and in civil script with accents.
2. If you read the Gospel every day from conception. For convenience, there are options in Russian and Ukrainian.
3. If you do not quite understand the text of the translation, or are just interested, you can refer to the original source. For this there is a variant in ancient Greek.
