What Is Tekami Navigator?
Tekami Navigator is an Android navigation application designed specifically for Ethiopia. Unlike international navigation apps that rely on standardised street addresses, Tekami Navigator is built around Ethiopia's official administrative address hierarchy — the way Ethiopians actually describe where they live and work.
The Problem We Solve
Ethiopia uses a hierarchical address system that most GPS apps cannot understand:
Region → Zone → Woreda → Kebele → House Number
In Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa (chartered cities), the structure is:
Region → Woreda → Kebele → House Number
When someone says "House 5140, Kebele 03, Kolfe Keranio, Addis Ababa" — that is a complete, precise Ethiopian address. International apps cannot search for it, route to it, or save it. Tekami Navigator can.
Key Features
Turn-by-Turn Navigation
Real-time GPS navigation with voice guidance, turn signals, and automatic route recalculation when you go off-route. The map rotates to match your heading so the road always points forward.
Ethiopian Address Search
Type any part of a local address — house number, kebele, woreda, or area name — and get instant suggestions. The search understands Ethiopian address format natively.
GPS Address Collection
Field workers and data collectors can record precise GPS coordinates against a full Ethiopian address. Every saved location builds a richer, more accurate map of Ethiopia.

Works on Ethiopian Roads
Tekami Navigator uses OpenStreetMap data for Ethiopia and includes intelligent turn detection for both mapped and unmapped roads. On roads not yet in the map database, the app calculates turns from GPS bearing changes so guidance remains accurate.
Designed for Ethiopian Screens
Camera positioning and zoom levels are calibrated for Ethiopian road widths and driving speeds. The navigation arrow shows 88% of the road ahead — optimised for the way Ethiopian roads are built and driven.
