When dragging a sheet or plank toward a wall or another panel, the app enforces a dynamic force field that represents required expansion joints. Instead of forcing panels flush together, the interface provides elastic resistance, visual field lines, and tactile feedback when a user attempts to violate mandatory gaps. This guarantees that your layout complies with building codes and manufacturer tolerances before cutting a single board.

The material engine supports customizable presets for oriented strand board, drywall sheets, hardwood, laminate, and plywood. You can define exact sheet dimensions, perimeter wall gaps, joint-to-joint spacing, and minimum offset distances for staggered seams. The app automatically calculates optimal layout grids, flags illegal cross-joints, and balances row offsets to maximize structural integrity and visual alignment.

Beyond layout visualization, Tension Floor Planner includes an automated cut optimization engine. It tracks all offcuts generated during row completion and determines whether remaining fragments can be reused in subsequent rows. This minimizes material waste, provides a comprehensive bill of materials, and calculates exact square footage, total sheet counts, and waste percentages for accurate project budgeting.
