The North West in the Viking Age is a project led by Dr Clare Downham, a medieval historian at the University of Liverpool.
Using the app, you can discover a range of sites in North West England which shed light on the history of viking settlement and integration, ranging from place-names and archaeological finds to stone sculptures.
The map will help you locate and visit sites, or you can browse through our alphabetical list. Each site is accompanied by a brief description and images as well as references to find out more information.
In addition to the locations in Wirral and Merseyside we’ve added 30 new locations detailing viking range and influence across Lancashire and Cumbria.
