About this app

Being part of a SEND needs assessment and then waiting for an Education, Health and Care plan is stressful. It is often hard to know what is normal, what your local authority has to do by law, or what to do when nothing seems to be happening.

EHCPwise answers those questions. Tell it the date the request was made and it works out every deadline your local authority must meet, shows you where your case stands against those dates and tells you what you can do when issues arise.

You do not need to know the law to use it. EHCPwise explains what applies to your case in plain English, and walks you through the statutory assessment process.

Your timeline
Every statutory deadline for your case worked out from the date the request was made: the decision on whether to assess, the draft plan and the final plan. See at a glance which deadlines have been met, which are coming up and which are late.

Guidance at every stage
Plain English explanations of what should happen next, what your local authority has to do and what your options are if it does not. It provides you with a voice to seek mediation, complain to the Ombudsman and appeal to the SEND Tribunal.

Reminders
A reminder three days before each deadline, and again on the day itself.

Letters that cite the law
Ready to edit letters for the moments that matter: requesting an assessment, chasing a decision, querying a decision, responding to the draft plan, querying the school named in the plan, requesting mediation, making a formal complaint and referring the case to the Ombudsman. Each one automatically fills in your own details and the relevant dates for you.

PRIVACY

Everything you enter stays on your device. There is no account to create and no server or cloud to sign in to. The child or young person’s name, documents and your notes are never sent anywhere, unless you choose to send them or save them anywhere other than your device. You can save a password protected backup file on your device. Anything that leaves your phone, by way of email or saving to your own personal cloud is your decision.

EHCPwise covers education, health and care needs assessments in England only. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have different processes.

It covers the initial statutory needs assessment, up to the point a final plan is issued. It does not cover annual reviews or anything that happens afterwards.

EHCPwise explains the process and keeps track of the deadlines. It does not replace legal advice, and it cannot tell you what the outcome of your case should be.
