Lockmaster AI is a free navigation app for narrowboats, cruisers and barges on the inland waterways of the UK, Ireland and continental Europe.
LIVE STOPPAGES, NOT A DAILY SNAPSHOT
Canal & River Trust stoppages and restrictions are refreshed throughout the day, so this morning's lock closure shows up this morning, not tomorrow. Waterways Ireland marine notices and VNF notices for France are included too.
ROUTE PLANNER WITH A DAILY PLAN
Pick where you start and where you want to go. Lockmaster gives you distance, number of locks and an ETA, then splits the trip into days. Every stoppage on your route, weather, facilities, pubs and fuel are listed along the way, so you see what is ahead before you cast off.
WILL MY BOAT FIT?
Enter your boat's length, beam and draught once. Lockmaster checks them against published Canal & River Trust dimensions, section by section, for more than 1,200 UK locks. Where no official figure exists, the app says "not published" and never guesses.
RIVER LEVELS
Environment Agency river gauges next to the waterway, with clear warnings when a river is rising or data is unavailable.
COMMUNITY REPORTS
Spotted a broken lock paddle, a new closure or a water point that no longer works? Report it in a few taps. Reports from fellow boaters appear on the map for everyone, clearly marked as community reports, next to the official notices. You can also share your boat's position with other Lockmaster users, or switch it off when you go ashore.
CAPTAIN'S LOG, FUEL AND SERVICE
Every voyage logs distance, locks worked and time underway, with your own notes for each leg. Set your drive type (narrowboat diesel, hybrid, electric or outboard) and Lockmaster estimates the fuel you used and reminds you when a service is due. Your log stays on your phone.
