About this app

Flight Map shows where your plane is on a world map, using your phone's own GPS, which keeps working in flight mode: no ads, no Wi-Fi to buy, no mobile data, no account. Your first flight is free.

Keeps going when the GPS doesn't.

Your phone's GPS only listens to satellites, so it works in flight mode. Tap Start at the gate, switch to flight mode, put the phone away. It keeps recording with the screen off and stops by itself after you land.

And when the GPS loses the sky, which on a plane it can for minutes at a time, Flight Map carries on instead of freezing: it estimates where you are along your route from your last good position, says plainly that it is an estimate and how sure it is, and shows your arrival time as a range. The moment the GPS is back, you see the real position again.

What you get
• Your plane on a world map: the country or sea below you, height, ground speed and heading, with distance and time to go to your arrival airport.
• An honest estimate when the GPS drops out, along a route that goes round closed airspace rather than a straight line.
• Areas of possible turbulence, storms, mountain waves and volcanic ash, from published aviation reports, plus the weather at your arrival airport. Download them before you board; they show in flight mode. They are reports as of your download, not warnings about what is ahead.
• Landmarks below you (Pro): mountains, lakes, waterfalls and islands near your route, named on the map, with which side of the plane they are on.
• Trips with connections (Unlimited): plan the whole trip, layovers included. After each landing it waits at the airport and carries on with your next flight by itself.
• A logbook that fills itself in (Pro): every flight added when you land, each with its own map, distance flown, time in the air, highest and fastest.
• A globe view for long and polar routes, with day and night.
• A demo flight to try it on the ground.

Private and simple
No account and no ads. Your position, route and flights stay on your phone. The whole world map is built in and the app is a small download, so there is nothing to fetch per flight. Anonymous usage statistics are off until you say yes.

Prices
Your first flight is free, with every core feature. After that it is a one-off purchase, with no subscription: Unlimited is £3.99 (every flight, and trips with connections) and Pro is £7.99 (everything, plus the logbook and landmarks), or £4.99 to upgrade from Unlimited. Google Play shows the price in your own currency.

Honest about limits
Satellite signal on a plane varies with the aircraft, where your phone is, and your battery saver settings (turn battery saver off for the flight). That is why the estimate exists, and it can be tens of miles out. Arrival times come from your speed and distance, without winds. Flight Map is not a navigation aid. Use your phone as the crew allow.
