About this app

Speak the name of a bird into your phone and this app quickly plays the bird's song. Was that bird I just heard a Cape May Warbler? No need to search through levels of menus or scroll down long lists to find out. Just, "say the word, hear the bird."
Just feel like enjoying or learning the birds' songs? Scroll through the alphabetized list of 132 bird songs, press one, and hear that bird.
Ready to test and improve your knowledge? The quiz feature plays for you 1 of 132 randomly selected bird songs. The phone speaks the name of the bird when you are ready for the answer.

Before downloading this app, consider a few things:
1.) Your phone should be able to to do voice recognition and text-to-voice (most smartphones can).
2.) Your phone's built-in voice recognition system makes a brief data connection each time it converts voice into text. Be aware of a possible cost if you don't have unlimited, free data.
3.) Because of the brief data connection, your phone needs to have a cell network or wi-fi connection. If your birding trip is so remote that your phone can't get a connection, you will be able to scroll to hear birds or play the quiz, but you won't be able to identify the birds by voice.
4.) This app features birds common to the north, central and eastern states of the U.S. If you live in, say, California, it might not be of interest to you. Check the list of birds, above.
5.) Please use this app responsibly. Use it in the wild at lower volume, for its intended purpose of bird identification, not to "call in" birds.
