About this app

APRS World is a modern client for the global APRS-IS amateur radio network. Watch licensed stations move across a live map, read their telemetry, exchange APRS text messages, and — with a KISS TNC — transmit packets over RF. One account works across both the web (aprs.world) and the mobile app.

Built for licensed amateur radio operators worldwide. APRS World is a viewer and a station; its transmit features are not a substitute for a valid radio license.

WHAT YOU GET
• Live world map — APRS-IS stations stream in over a persistent WebSocket and render on a smooth MapLibre vector map. Pan and zoom anywhere on Earth.
• Station details — callsign, symbol, path, speed, course, comment, last-heard time, and full packet history for every station.
• Weather & telemetry overlays — wind, temperature, pressure, and analog telemetry channels alongside positions.
• Messaging — send and receive APRS text messages to any callsign, with a conversation view and delivery status.
• Track Logger — record your own GPS trail locally and export the session as a GPX file.
• Dark & light themes — readable in the shack and outdoors.

RF GATEWAY (TX FROM YOUR PHONE)
APRS World transmits real APRS frames through hardware you already own:
• Bluetooth KISS TNC — pair a KISS-mode TNC over Bluetooth Classic and beacon, message, or proxy packets straight to the air. Tested with mainstream KISS-capable handhelds and external TNCs.
• TCP KISS — connect to a Direwolf or compatible KISS server on your network for cross-platform RF I/O.
Note: direct-from-phone AFSK transmission is not enabled in this release. Use a KISS TNC for over-the-air operation.

PRIVACY
• Location is read only after you grant permission, for map centering, distance, and — only if you enable it — beaconing.
• APRS messages and beacons are sent to the public APRS-IS network by design. That is what APRS is.
• No location sale. No third-party tracking SDKs.

REQUIREMENTS
• Amateur radio license required for transmission. The free map and message-receive features work without one.
• A KISS TNC (Bluetooth or TCP) is required for RF transmit. Many ham handheld radios include one.
• Android 7.0 (API 24) and up.

What’s new

Fixed: tracking stopped when the screen was locked. Beacons now keep going with the phone in your pocket. If Android's battery optimisation still cuts them off, the beacon card says so and opens the right setting. Beacons now carry speed and heading, so your track shows direction and pace instead of plain dots. Beacons go out under the callsign you picked — operators running several SSIDs were transmitting under the wrong one. Much lighter on data and battery in the background.
