Have you ever found a sea slug in the ocean but returned home without knowing its name?
"Sea Slugs of the World" is the official app for seaslug.world, a user-submitted sea slug encyclopedia that has grown from contributions by 630 divers, snorkelers, and researchers. It features over 2,200 species and more than 50,000 submitted photos.
[Main Features]
■ Encyclopedia of over 2,200 sea slug species
You can search by Japanese name and scientific name, as well as by combining "color," "observation area," and "classification (family/genus)." Even if you don't know the name of a sea slug, you can look it up based on its visual characteristics. The photo grid allows you to view them all in one place, just like flipping through a physical encyclopedia.
■ Identify species and names from photos (AI identification)
Simply select a photo you've taken, and the AI will suggest candidate species with similarity scores. You can look up names immediately after diving or tide pool observation, while the memory is still fresh. You can proceed directly to the detailed encyclopedia page from the suggestions.
■ Popular Species and Unknown Species
From commonly seen species like *Cinderella nudibranch*, *Yellow nudibranch*, *Sarasa nudibranch*, *Mizore nudibranch*, and *Ao nudibranch*, to undescribed species without Japanese names. You can search by both Japanese and scientific names.
■ Offline Sea Slug Field Guide
By saving the field guide data and representative photos to your device, you can use the field guide even on diving boats without cellular reception, on remote islands, or even while in airplane mode. We aim to create a field guide that's truly useful at sea.
■ Narrow Your Search by Classification, Region, and Color
You can search by following the classification hierarchy, from Aplysia to Doridacea. Narrowing your search by observation region is convenient for divers who want to understand "species found in this area."
■ Daily Updates
Check news about new species descriptions, blog posts introducing research papers, and newly submitted photos from the community on the home page.
