App best summed up as "barely adequate". Consistently can't connect to the hub. I was able to get the hub set up and can use the remote, but the app can't connect to it even though I see it on my network. The troubleshooting instructions say to make sure your phone is on the "2.4GHz network", which most modern smartphones and mesh networks make impossible. Why is that even necessary? If you do manage to connect, the app works well enough, but that's about it.

After initial setup I was unable to connect the app back to the hub. It's a brick now... Edit: Got it to partially work, software needs work, good promise... ... Forward to January 2024! After leaving the thing on a shelf for more than a year I decided to try it again. After the usual connection snafu, I finally managed to to upgrade both firmware. It remember my initial settings. It was quite easy to setup my home theater and music setup including macros. Much better!

The X1 remote is really well constructed and feels great to use, but I have to return it because either the app or the hub can't hold a connection open. I only got the hub to actually take commands 2-3 times out of dozens of attempts, and troubleshooting instructions are of the "off and on again" variety. The app happily reports that it's connected and ready to learn even now, when the hub is fully boxed up for return. Not worth the money until the app gets significant stability improvements.
