Bump is a peer-to-peer Internet sharing app. People with data to spare share their connection with people nearby and get paid for what flows through their phone. People who need to get online buy it by the megabyte, at a fraction of what a prepaid top-up costs.
The Bump app is in public beta on Android in Brazil and Colombia.
SHARE AND GET PAID
Open the app, tap Share and choose how much data you are willing to give. Your phone advertises itself over Bluetooth so people nearby can find you, and shares its connection over Wi-Fi Direct, the same technology as an ordinary hotspot. You earn credits for every megabyte someone uses through you.
GET ONLINE FOR LESS
The coverage map shows who is sharing near you, with their signal strength and price. Pick one, tap Connect, and your phone links directly to theirs. You pay with Bump credits only for the data you actually use. No subscription, no minimum, nothing charged until you choose to buy credits.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your traffic is carried through an encrypted VPN tunnel, so the person sharing cannot see what you do online, and you cannot see theirs.
HOW IT WORKS BEST
Bump works wherever people are: campuses, terminals, markets and busy neighbourhoods. If nobody is sharing near you yet, the map will be empty. The network grows as more people join.
