About this app

Welcome to the Young Women’s Media Guide App — your offline companion for learning, growth, and empowerment in media.

This app was developed as part of the Young Women’s Media and Information Literacy Initiative (#YoMIL), a one-year project launched in October 2024 to support young women in The Gambia who want to work in media. The initiative was led by journalist and trainer Nyima Jadama, implemented by MAJaC with support from the r0g_agency in Berlin, and funded by the German development ministry BMZ.

Over 280 young women from all seven regions of The Gambia participated in the project. They came from diverse backgrounds—students, journalists, and activists—and attended regional training sessions, expert workshops, and a national women’s media summit. Together, they learned about journalism, digital storytelling, media ethics, online safety, and how to use their voices to create change.

At the heart of this app is the Young Women’s Media Guide—the first in The Gambia. It’s a practical and inspiring tool to help you start or strengthen your media journey. Inside, you'll find:
- Practical steps to start a media career
- Guidance on media ethics, safety, and legal rights
- Tips for creating powerful content and verifying information
- Strategies to overcome gender-based challenges

This app works offline so that you can access everything anytime, anywhere.

The media needs your voice. This guide is here to help you use it.
