Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are often associated with increased morbidity and mortality, contributing to approximately one-third of unexpected in-hospital deaths. It is estimated that up to 70% of HAIs are preventable. Environmental contamination plays a significant role in HAIs and in the unrecognized transmission of nosocomial pathogens during outbreaks, as well as ongoing sporadic transmission.
