A light meter built for Android, not just another iOS port.

I started building HushBlur because I was tired of the guesswork in exposure calculation. A lot of the top light meter apps on the Play Store are simple ports(from an iOS app) that also assume every Android device has the same sensor. In reality, a Pixel, a Samsung, and an OnePlus all "see" light differently. It’s surprising to me how many light meter apps overlook the necessity of calibration. Most solutions don't even acknowledge the sensor variance between Android devices, let alone provide a reliable way to get an accurate reading. I built HushBlur because a real analog photography tool should account for your specific hardware, taking the guesswork out of your exposure calculations. If your app isn't tuned to your specific hardware, your 35mm or medium format negatives/slides are going to suffer. (And I know they are expensive.)

Try the free apps first.
There are plenty of free light meters in play store available. If one of them works perfectly for your phone’s specific sensor, that’s great. But if you(like I did) find that your exposures are several stops off, inconsistent, or the UI(looks nice but) feels laggy and "ported", come back and give HushBlur a try. I built this specifically for those of us who need a tool that actually respects Android hardware, and the variations of Android hardware.

Remove the Variance: Use the Linear Calibration tool to match HushBlur’s readings to your physical handheld meter or your camera’s internal metering.

Predictable Results: Once you’ve done the calibration(remember to turn it on), the app handles the math. It takes the guesswork out of the equation, giving you a reliable exposure calculator that actually respects your phone's specific sensor.

I’ve kept the interface focused on what matters when you’re framing a shot:

Spot-Weighted Metering: Don't just meter for the whole scene. Tap the preview to target highlights or shadows—perfect for the Zone System.

Incident Metering: On compatible devices, use the ambient light sensor to measure the light falling directly on your subject.

Exposure Note Keeping: Record your shutter speed, aperture, and ISO for every frame. I’ve recently added Note Filtering so you can easily find and review your data after the film is developed.

Priority Modes: Quickly switch between Aperture and Shutter priority to find the settings you need for your manual glass.

HushBlur is a native Android project, meaning it’s fast, responsive, and doesn’t drain your battery with heavy "wrapper" frameworks. All data stays on your phone. It does not need internet to work, except for updates.

Active Development: I’m constantly refining the code and adding features—like spot weighted metering—based on what I need in the field and what you request.
