Sober First Aid is for the minute a craving hits, and for the people who are done with what the next drink or the next hit was going to cost them.

WHEN A CRAVING HITS: One tap starts a minute of breathing with the water. Then the app hands back the words you wrote about why you started this, and any voice recordings you've kept: your own, or ones from people who love you.

IF IT DOESN'T PASS: Play the tape forward: write out where the first drink actually goes. Tonight, tomorrow morning, the day after. What you write never leaves your phone.

IF YOU'RE STILL STRUGGLING: A search for colors in the room to bring you back into it, and the things that help people surf an urge, ready when you are.

PEOPLE WHO GET IT: A community feed of people doing this too. Share a good day, a hard night, or a picture of something that made you happy. React to other people's days. Block anyone instantly, and report anything, without a word to them.

YOUR DAYS, COUNTED: Your day count, and under it a second number that only goes up: every craving you've outlasted. Days can start over; that number never does. Milestones are celebrated when you reach them: a week, a month, a hundred days, a year, etc.

WHAT IT COSTS: Free for 14 days, then $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year, billed through Google Play. Cancel any time.

YOUR WORDS STAY YOURS: Go by any name you like. Your recordings are only ever yours to hear. Photos are stripped of their location before they upload. Delete anything, or everything, whenever you want.

Sober First Aid is for adults, 18 and over. Its tools come from addiction treatment and cognitive behavioral therapy, where they have been used for decades. It is not treatment, medical advice, or emergency care. If you are in crisis, 988 and 911 reach people who can help, at any hour, whether or not you have an account.
