Rucking – The Rucking Calorie Calculator and Tracker

I never set out to make an app.

I just got tired of watching my smartwatch undercount my workouts.

I’ve been rucking for years — walking with weight to burn fat, build strength, improve conditioning, and stay lean — and when I first built this app, there still wasn’t a button that simply said:

Start Ruck.

So I built one.

And now there is.

Rucking has grown from a simple calorie calculator into a full rucking workout tracker designed specifically for people carrying weight.

Tap Start Ruck, throw on your backpack or weighted vest, and go.

🧭 Live Ruck Tracking

• GPS distance
• Elapsed time
• Average pace
• Live estimated calorie burn
• Elevation gain
• Background tracking with the screen locked
• Quick Start using your previous ruck settings

Start the ruck. Do the work. Stop the ruck.

❤️ Health Connect Integration

With your permission, Rucking can:

• Pull your latest body weight
• Read available heart-rate data during your workout
• Use heart rate to help estimate effort
• Save completed rucks to Health Connect
• Record distance, estimated active calories, duration, and elevation gain

Health Connect is optional. If heart-rate data isn’t available, the app uses your selected effort level instead.

🔥 Rucking Calorie Calculator

Most walking trackers don’t know you’re carrying 20, 30, 40+ pounds.

Rucking estimates calorie burn using:

• Body weight
• Ruck weight
• Distance
• Effort level
• Backpack vs. weighted vest
• Available heart-rate data during tracked workouts

The goal is simple: give ruckers a better estimate than treating a loaded ruck like an ordinary walk.

⚖️ Rucking Weight-Loss Calculator

Estimate how your rucking routine may affect your weight-loss timeline based on body weight, calorie intake, activity level, ruck distance, carried weight, pack type, and effort.

💪 Why I Built It

I’m Preston Shamblen, an ISSA and NCCPT-certified personal trainer, nutritionist, and strength coach.

I lost 90 pounds through rucking, outdoor fitness, strength training, and consistency, eventually reaching below 10% body fat.

Rucking played a huge role in helping me lose the weight and keep it off.

I originally built this app because I wanted better numbers than the generic walking estimates on my watch.

It took me a while to get the app where I wanted it.

Sorry about that.

But we’re finally here.

You can now start a ruck, track the workout, record the distance, estimate the work you did, and save the workout.

My hope is that seeing that progress helps other people stay motivated too.
