Hear a bird? Identify it by its song. See one? Identify it from a photo. Then collect it.

Birdex is the bird identification app that turns birdwatching into a collecting adventure. Sound ID is a bird song identifier that listens and names the bird singing around you. Photo ID identifies the bird you snapped. Every sighting you log unlocks a beautifully illustrated card for your personal Birdex, and your life list grows with every walk.

Join thousands of birders across the UK and Europe discovering a fresh, rewarding way to connect with nature.

▸ SOUND ID: A BIRDSONG IDENTIFIER IN YOUR POCKET

• Open Sound ID and hold up your phone. Species appear and firm up in real time as the bird keeps singing.
• Identify birds by sound, song and call, entirely on your phone. No audio ever leaves it, and it works with no signal once set up.
• Free and unlimited, with a bird list built for UK birds.
• Tap any bird it hears to log it in one step.

▸ PHOTO ID: A BIRD IDENTIFIER FOR PICTURES

• Snap or upload a photo and identify birds by picture in seconds.
• Detailed species pages help you confirm tricky IDs with confidence.
• Already use Merlin Bird ID? Import your sightings and pick up where you left off.

▸ KEEP A LIFE LIST

Every bird you record joins your personal life list, a running record of everything you have seen:

• Log sightings with date, place, and count
• Track how many species you have found
• Revisit your rarest finds and favourite days in the field

▸ COLLECT BEAUTIFUL BIRD CARDS

Every sighting unlocks a collectible card for your Birdex. Watch your collection grow as you explore gardens, parks, wetlands, woodlands, and coastlines across the UK and Europe. Each card carries stunning artwork, fascinating facts, and habitat, seasonal behaviour, and conservation status.
