Moment is a research-based mobile application designed to help users become more aware of their social media habits and encourage healthier interactions with digital technologies.

Many people spend more time on social media than they initially intend. Moment helps users better understand their digital habits by monitoring how much time they spend on selected social media applications and providing gentle reminders when usage reaches certain thresholds.

The goal of the app is not to restrict technology use, but to promote awareness, reflection, and healthier digital routines.

How Moment Works

After installing the app, users can select the social media applications they want Moment to monitor. The app then tracks the amount of time spent on those selected apps and can provide reminders when usage reaches a predefined limit.

Depending on the study condition, reminders may appear as:

• Notifications
• Gentle vibrations
• Temporary access restrictions for a short period

These reminders are designed to encourage users to take short breaks and become more mindful of their digital behavior.

Users can continue using their phones normally while Moment runs in the background.

Privacy and Transparency

Protecting user privacy is a core priority of the app.

Moment does not record or monitor the content of your activity. The app cannot see messages, posts, photos, or any personal content viewed on your phone.

The app only reads usage duration information for selected social media applications in order to generate reminders.

Moment does not:

• Record your screen
• Capture screenshots
• Access messages or personal communications
• Track your location
• Access contacts, photos, or files

Only limited usage statistics are collected to support the research objectives of the study.

Research Participation

Moment is currently used as part of an academic research project studying social media use and digital well-being. Access to the app may require an invitation link or activation code provided by the research team.

Participants install the app, choose which social media apps to monitor, and continue using their phones normally while the app tracks usage patterns and delivers reminders.

The insights generated through this research aim to help improve the design of future tools that support healthier relationships with digital technologies.

Designed for Awareness

Moment is not meant to judge or control how you use your phone. Instead, it provides simple signals that help users reflect on their habits and make more intentional choices about their digital time.

By increasing awareness of social media usage, Moment helps users take small steps toward a more balanced and mindful digital life.
