Roots to Branch is a progressive safeguarding curriculum designed to build safeguarding capability from childhood through adolescence.

Roots to Branch provides a structured learning journey that helps learners develop the knowledge, understanding, confidence and responsibility they need to navigate an increasingly complex world safely and positively.

Rather than treating safeguarding as a collection of separate topics or one-off lessons, Roots to Branch enables learning to develop progressively over time. Safeguarding concepts are revisited with increasing depth, complexity, independence and real-world application as children grow.

The curriculum covers six key safeguarding areas:

• Personal Safety
• Digital and Online Safety
• Safety in the Environment
• Health and Wellbeing
• Safeguarding Awareness & Practice
• Speaking Up and Taking Action

Across six progressive stages, learners move from awareness and understanding through to application, responsibility, advocacy and leadership. Each stage builds upon previous learning, supporting children to become increasingly informed, resilient, responsible and empowered.

Learning is brought to life through engaging curriculum units, practical activities, reflection tasks, real-life scenarios, discussion opportunities and additional resources. Through the Roots to Branch app, learners can access their safeguarding learning and resources in one easy-to-navigate digital space.

Roots to Branch aims to develop more than safeguarding awareness. It supports learners to make informed decisions, recognise and manage risk, seek support when needed, navigate digital environments safely, support others and contribute positively to safer communities.

Building safeguarding capability for life.
