Whether you are having a rough week, want something steadier than the usual feed, or just like sending a good line to a friend, Gyaan Daily has something for you.

A quote on its own is easy to nod at and forget. This one tells you what the words actually mean, so it stays with you a little longer.

WHAT SITS UNDER A QUOTE

The original, as it was written. A transliteration, so you can say it aloud without reading the script. A plain translation. A note on what it is actually saying and where it came from. And a line on what it might be asking of you today.

That note is the reason this app exists. It was written by hand, checked against the source, and read back by someone who knows the language. No machine wrote a word of it.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

+ Read one quote and stop, or keep going for as long as you like
+ Sanskrit, Tamil, Hindi and English, each in its own script
+ Keep quotes on your shelf and group them into collections
+ Search by the way a word sounds, so you can type kural without hunting for the marks over the letters
+ A reminder at a time you choose, which opens into the whole quote rather than the grey preview you were expecting
+ Turn any quote into a card worth sending, and choose the design and the ground behind it
+ Pinch the verse to make it bigger, or pick a size from the menu
+ Take a copy of everything away with you, and read it back in later

A WIDGET, SO YOU SEE IT WITHOUT LOOKING

Most days you will read the quote before you open anything. Put Gyaan Daily on your home screen in three sizes. It carries the day's quote in whichever language you read, it changes when the day does, and tapping it opens the whole thing with the note underneath. You can put a photograph behind it, set the text size, and choose whether the buttons show.

WHERE THE WORDS COME FROM

The Bhagavad Gita, and Sanskrit subhashit verses. The Thirukkural, and Tamil ponmozhigal and kavithai. Kabir's dohe, and Hindi anmol vachan and vichar. Proverbs, poets and plain good sense from elsewhere as well, each shloka with the place it came from written under it.

Everything here is out of copyright. The acknowledgements screen names every source and every typeface, which is not something you are asked to take on trust.

The app works with no connection. Nothing you read, keep or search for leaves your phone.

GYAAN DAILY GOLD

Gold opens every card design and every ground, puts your name on a card and takes our mark off it, removes the count from reminders, and gives you the long shelf.

Monthly, yearly, or one payment for good. Payment is taken by your Google Play account when you confirm. A subscription renews itself until you stop it, and you cancel it from Google Play rather than from inside the app. The one-time purchase does not renew and there is nothing to cancel.
