Conceived in a STEM student workshop as an educational tool for music creation, bit4beat is a lightweight, mobile-first pocket DAW and sequencer designed to make music composition accessible on the go.

Backed by a highly optimized, custom native C++ audio engine, bit4beat provides a responsive and stable environment for students, hobbyists, and songwriters to compose, arrange and learn music theory.

KEY FEATURES:

- Traditional Staff & MIDI Piano Roll: Write music using a traditional staff notation layout (pentagram) or a touch-friendly MIDI piano roll grid. Choose standard note values from whole notes down to thirty-second notes, with support for dotted, triplet, and staccato articulations.

- Smart Music Theory Guides: Compose with confidence. Set a master key to overlay guidelines on your staff and let the smart pen handle sharps, flats, and naturals automatically to keep your compositions musically cohesive.

- Chord Progression Builder: Access a dedicated composer menu to build structured chord sequences (e.g., Pop, Jazz, or Blues) in your project loop, helping you understand functional harmony.

- Independent Multi-Track Arranger: Add and manage multiple tracks (Melody, Chords, or Drum Kits). Customize each track’s volume, stereo panning, loop bounds, and clef settings individually.

- Custom SoundFont Library: Build your own custom instrument catalog. Import standard .sf2 SoundFont files directly from local storage into your library. Assemble a persistent project rack with up to 500MB of active instruments, and dynamically route different SoundFonts or drum kits to individual tracks

- Boutique FX Rack: Apply a professional series processing chain to each track, including:
* Analog Saturation: Warm, tube-style soft-clipping and drive.
* ZDF Resonant Filter: Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, or notch filters using Zero-Delay Feedback modeling.
* Studio Compressor: Control dynamics, control peak levels, and add punch with adjustable threshold, ratio, attack, release, and makeup gain.
* Rhythmic Trance Gate: An interactive, clickable 32-step volume chopper.
* Synced Delay: Tempo-aligned stereo or ping-pong echo.
* Master Reverb Send: Dial in the room depth for individual tracks.

- Loop & Song Modes: Toggle between a live-triggering Session Grid to play with clip variations, and a linear Arrangement Timeline to sequence your sections into a finished song.

- Real-Time Automation: Paint precise parameter curves for volume, panning, or arpeggiator settings directly on your timelines.

- Local Saves & MIDI Export: Save your work securely as local files (.b4b). When you are ready to expand your ideas, export your projects as Standard MIDI files (Format 1) to continue your arrangements seamlessly inside desktop DAWs.

Whether you are a student learning the basics of music notation or an experienced composer sketching out ideas, bit4beat offers a stable, lightweight, and versatile workspace.
