I made MindPADD because I miss when a phone felt like a tool instead of a slot machine.

Built in the spirit of the PADDs from Star Trek and the plain, honest gadgets of the early 2000s. The point is to get you what you need in about five seconds, so you can put the phone down and get on with your day.

Most apps are built to keep you scrolling. This one is built to be glanced at and closed.

WHAT'S ON IT
You swipe between a handful of panels:
- Audio: a nod to old MP3 players, with a live system-wide waveform, big transport buttons, and scrolling track info.
- Ticker: your habits and a running log in one place. Tick off daily routines on a weekly grid and jot quick notes. Every habit you complete drops into the log with a timestamp, so the day reads back as one timeline.
- Social: every unread notification pulled into one list. See who messaged you without opening six apps, and read the whole thing without leaving the panel.
- World Index: instead of a battery-hungry map, it scans OpenStreetMap for places near you and sorts them by distance. Parks, cafes, libraries, bars, shops. Find somewhere to go, then get moving.
- Widgets: your pinned Android widgets, plus small built-in modules for habit status, recent log entries, a Pomodoro timer, and screen-time and calendar readouts.

THE TASKBAR

Along the bottom you get the time, date, battery, and unread count. When something's playing, the track title takes over that strip and the dock becomes media controls. When it's quiet, it's your pinned apps, and one button folds between the two.

Swipe up for the app drawer. Search apps, contacts, and files together, or narrow it with a. for apps, c. for contacts, or f. for files.

THE REST

Double-tap any panel header to lock the screen. That runs through Accessibility, so there's no device-admin hold over your phone. Haptics run throughout and you can switch them off. Pick a flat or gradient theme that takes its colors from your wallpaper. There's also a slider to line up the panel corners with your device's actual screen curve.

PERMISSIONS

It stands in for a lot of system features, so it asks for a few things, and uses each one only for the obvious job:

Notification access for the Social panel.
Location for the nearby-places scan.
Files and contacts for app drawer search.
Microphone for the audio waveform. It only reads internal system audio, never the room around you.
Accessibility, and only if you turn on double-tap-to-lock.

This is a hobby project by one person who wants their phone to support a life spent away from the screen. No accounts, no ads, no tracking.
