Turn any photo into a paint-mixing plan.
Have you ever studied a photograph, a painting, or a favorite object and wondered which colors in your paint box could recreate it? Artist Color Mixer answers with a step-by-step pigment recipe — calculated from the paints you actually own.
How it works
1. Take a photo, pick one from your library or files, or point the live camera at your subject.
2. Tap the color you want. A magnified loupe shows the exact pixel, with hex and RGB readouts.
3. Get a mixing recipe for your medium: pigment names, tube names, and percentages, plus practical blending tips. If your paints can't hit the color exactly, the app shows the closest recipe they can achieve.
A built-in sample photo lets you try the full workflow before you snap a single shot.
Mix from your own paints
- Choose from 8 media: oil, watercolor, acrylic, Acrylic Citadel, pastel, colored pencil, gouache, and tempera.
- Pick the set you actually use — generic pigments, 11 brand sets (Winsor & Newton, Gamblin, Rembrandt, Old Holland, and M. Graham oils; AK Interactive, Pro Acryl, Reaper, Scale75, Two Thin Coats, and Vallejo model paints), or a set you build yourself.
- My Paints lets you create custom medium sets by choosing pigments from any brand — perfect for a limited palette or the exact tubes on your bench.
Build a palette for your artwork
- Auto Palette extracts 4–32 dominant colors from your reference photo, each with its own recipe; add them all to your palette in one tap.
- Palette Map shows where each color lives in the photo — original, posterized, or highlight views — so you can plan shadows, highlights, and every passage.
- Color Harmonies offers six schemes (complementary, analogous, triadic, split-complementary, square, and tetradic) with a hue slider, and every harmony color comes with a recipe.
- Recent Colors keeps your last 10 samples one tap away, and every palette lives in a project that auto-saves as you work.
Projects that save themselves
Every photo becomes a project with its own palette, color history, and paint-set selection. Close the app and come back later — your reference, recipes, and palettes are right where you left them.
