Chicken Genetics Calculator helps hobby breeders work toward a specific chicken color with the birds they already have.

BUILT ON RECOGNIZED COLOR VARIETIES

The app works from recognized color varieties, each mapped to a genotype from established specialist references. Choose a documented variety as your target, or enter a custom genotype when you are working toward something exact.

PLAN A ROUTE TO YOUR TARGET COLOR

Choose a target and Plan compares it with the chickens in your flock. It tells you whether your flock can start the route, then builds the shortest route it can find. It names each mating, the offspring to retain and any gene that is missing. It also shows which color and sex of chicken may need to be introduced; it does not recommend sellers or individual birds. Save the roadmap as a project and return to it across hatches and seasons.

CALCULATE CROSSES ACROSS GENERATIONS

Pair a rooster and a hen to see possible offspring genotypes and expected frequencies. The Calculator includes Punnett squares, handles linked genes, and shows cockerel and pullet outcomes separately when sex-linked genes are involved. Carry selected offspring into F2 and later generations, then compare an intercross with a backcross to either original parent.

KEEP YOUR FLOCK ON RECORD

Record each chicken's color or variety, sex, hatch date, parents, generation, clan, photos and known genes. Incomplete genotypes are fine. Flock records become the parents available to Calculator and Plan.

TRACK HATCHES, CLANS AND PENS

Record hatch batches and the breeding pens they came from. Name each clan or pen and keep the dates when birds moved in or out. For a batch of eggs, the app can list the roosters and hens that could have been responsible based on those dates. It never claims which bird was the parent when the record cannot establish that.

LOG CROSSES (Planner)

Planner can record planned and completed matings, connect hatch groups to a cross, and track the individual chicks you retain. A retained chick can be promoted to its own flock record.

RECOVER BREED TYPE AS WELL AS COLOR (Planner)

When a target color came from another breed or a bantam, compare your birds with documented breed standards alongside the color roadmap.

LEARN AS YOU GO

A built-in genetics introduction, a searchable glossary and daily tips explain the genes and inheritance terms used in the app. Daily tips are available to all users.
