Learn to both understand and use a new language, one sentence at a time.

You get a short sentence, translate it, and get an answer straight away: what was right, what could be better, and why. The explanations are always in your own language.

ASSESSED, NOT JUST CHECKED AGAINST AN ANSWER KEY
Most language apps check whether you hit the one answer they had in mind. LingoCompanion understands what you meant. Say it another way that is also right, and it is accepted. Miss, and you find out exactly what went wrong — in your sentence, not as a general rule.

SPEAK, AND SEE WHETHER YOU ARE UNDERSTOOD
Tap the microphone and say your answer in the language you are learning. What you say appears as text while you speak, so you see straight away whether you were understood — and which words did not come across. If it reads "pera" where you said "perro", you know which word to work on. You can correct the text before sending, and the answer is assessed like any other.

THREE SKILLS, NOT ONE
Most language apps train you to recognise. LingoCompanion lets you choose:
• Writing — you get the sentence in your own language and write it in the new one
• Reading — you get the sentence in the new language and say what it means
• Listening — the sentence is read aloud with the text covered, and you say what it means. Stuck? Show the text.

Someone who can ask "¿Dónde está la playa?" is still stuck when the answer comes back: "Siga todo recto y luego gire a la derecha". Out in the world, that is the direction you meet a language first.

SENTENCES YOU WILL ACTUALLY NEED
Twelve topics cover what people really need: ordering food, asking directions, getting through the pharmacy, buying a ticket, asking someone to repeat. Five difficulty levels, from "A beer, please" to sentences with subordinate clauses. You choose the level, and see how it is going: points and sentences today, and your points from the last day you practised.

STUCK? YOU GET HELP, NOT THE ANSWER
The hint button reveals one word at a time. The hardest noun first, with its gender, then the verb, then the small words. The last press gives you the whole sentence — but by then you have usually got there yourself.

HEAR THE PRONUNCIATION
Every sentence can be read aloud, in a voice for the language it is in.

NO ACCOUNT, NO STREAKS
No streak to lose, no character to disappoint. You earn points for every right answer and can compare today with the last day you practised — a day off costs nothing. Your progress stays on your device.

Norwegian, English and Spanish can each be your own language or the one you are learning.

ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY
Answers are assessed by a language model. That is why the app can explain your particular mistake rather than show a fixed answer — and why you can write freely instead of picking from options. The sentences are written in advance with a language model and quality checked, so the next exercise is ready at once. Once in a while one may still come out slightly off.

When you speak, your speech is turned into text by the speech recognition in your phone or browser. The app does not store audio.

Your answer is sent as text to the language model for assessment. Nothing else is shared, and there is no account to tie it to. See the privacy policy.
