Thanatide is a top-down co-op shooter set in a collapsing arcology. A squad of one to four players fights through to an objective and extracts with what it found. A squad that goes down before extracting keeps nothing from that run.

Weapons and armor have random stats. A drop gets a rarity first, then a set of affixes, and the item card shows how strong each affix came out. A strong Superior can beat a weak Exotic.

THE RUN
Threat is chosen before each drop. Higher Threat means tougher enemies and better drops. Extracting saves everything found during the run.

THE BUILD
Each operator carries a primary, a secondary and a sidearm, along with an armor frame, a skill tree and one field ability. Dozens of weapon chassis span every class, and the rarest only drop at high Threat. Armor frames change how an operator moves as well as how much damage it can take. Items level up and take mods in their sockets, and Reforge rerolls a weak affix to a new value. Spare gear breaks down into materials for upgrades.

CAMPAIGN
Twenty missions across four acts, from the first call-out to the source of the outbreak. Each mission is a route through rooms and corridors to a series of objectives. A retreating squad can shut bulkheads behind it, and some objectives have to be held until they finish.

ENDLESS, DAILY AND NIGHTMARE
Endless mode sends waves until the squad extracts or goes down, and each wave raises the reward multiplier. The daily operation is one fixed run per day, the same for every player. Nightmare plays a whole act back to back at Terminal, the top Threat tier, with no re-gearing between missions and health carried from one to the next.

PRESSURE
Pressure puts two players' runs on the same map. Kills fill a meter that sends extra enemies into the other run, and the run that lasts longer wins. The opponent is a recorded run from another player, so a match starts without waiting. Matches are rated, and ratings run in seasons.

ACCOUNTS AND LEADERBOARDS
Careers are kept on Cygnus Works servers, and a free Cygnus Works account is needed after the tutorial. Every run is checked on the server before it counts. Leaderboards show operator names and scores.

FOUR-PLAYER CO-OP
One player hosts and shares a five-character code. Each player gets their own drops and sees only those, so loot is never contested. Every mission, endless and Nightmare can be played in co-op.

Touch and gamepad are supported. A gamepad is required on Android TV.
