ScamSkeptic helps you recognize scams before they cost you money or personal information.

Scammers rely on pressure, urgency, and confusion. ScamSkeptic teaches a simple principle: it’s always okay to hang up and verify. If someone claims to be from your bank, the IRS, tech support, or a delivery company, end the call and contact the organization using a number you trust—like the one on your credit card, statement, or official website.

The app uses short lessons and quick quizzes to help you learn the warning signs that appear across nearly all scams.

What you’ll learn:

The most common red flags used by scammers

How urgency and fear are used to pressure victims

Why unexpected messages asking you to click, call, or pay are risky

How to safely verify whether a request is legitimate

Why calling back trusted numbers protects you

Features

Short, easy lessons you can finish in minutes

Quick quizzes that reinforce scam-spotting skills

Clear examples of real-world scam tactics

Simple reminders of the most important rule: verify before you act

ScamSkeptic focuses on practical awareness rather than technical jargon. The goal is to help anyone—especially friends and family who may not follow cybersecurity news—build the habit of pausing and verifying before responding to suspicious messages or calls.

Remember:
If something feels urgent, scary, or too good to be true, pause. Hang up. Verify using a trusted number.

Because the safest response to a suspicious call is often the simplest one: hang up and check.

Author's Note: As an IT professional working in various Fortune 500 companies, I've had the privilege of receiving training every year on how to identify and avoid scams. Big corporations provide that type of training to their employees. But my parents don't get that training. Neither do many of my friends. I wanted to build an app that teaches everyone the same basic principles that we are taught.
