Phone storage full? FreeUp Photos backs up the photos and videos on your phone to storage that comes with the app, then frees up space on the phone. An alternative to Google Photos and Google One that costs less.

The storage is included - there is no server to find, rent or configure. You sign in with your Google account, your own backup account is created for you, and the first 1 GB is free. No address to type, no password to invent, no plan to choose before you can see whether any of it works.

WHAT IT DOES

- Backs up automatically. A photo is uploaded shortly after you take it, over Wi-Fi, without opening the app. You can restrict it further, require charging, or turn it off entirely.
- Frees up space, carefully. Before a local file is deleted, the app checks that the copy on the server is the same file - matching size, and a SHA-256 digest compared on both sides wherever the server can compute one. Deletion goes through the system bin, so you get a second chance.
- Restores. Browse the server and pull any file back to the phone.
- Shows you what is happening. Progress, transfer rate and the file in flight, in a notification you can cancel at any point.

NOT A BLACK BOX

The storage is provided, but it is still an ordinary account, and on a paid plan the app hands you its credentials. Reach the same files from a computer over SFTP, or switch on WebDAV or Samba and mount it like a drive. Nothing is locked into this app: the files are stored as files, in directories named after your albums, with their original names.

No advertising. No analytics or tracking SDK. The app talks to your storage and to our server, which records only the account and the plan - never the files themselves.

PLANS

1 GB free, which is enough to see how it works. Paid plans start at 100 GB and go to 10 TB, billed monthly through Google Play, cancellable at any time.

REQUIREMENTS

Android 11 or newer. "Free up space" relies on system APIs that older versions do not have, so the app does not install where its main feature could not work.
