Canopy Survey is a field logbook for bird surveys, built for speed with a phone in one hand and binoculars in the other.

LOG A SIGHTING IN SECONDS
• Type a species code (SHIK, BD, GRTD…) or a name — abbreviation matches come first
• Scientific name, habitat and food habit fill in automatically from your reference list
• Count, activity, tree/plant, plot, transect, observer, date, time and notes
• GPS coordinates and elevation are captured automatically while you log, and the plot/site is suggested from where you have logged before

YOUR SPECIES REFERENCE
• Ships with a 228-species master list and grows with your own additions
• Import and export the list as CSV; duplicates are resolved one by one, your way
• Not in the list? Look it up with AI (uses your own OpenRouter key) or add it by hand — every sighting is tied to a species in your reference

RECORDS, FILTERS, EXPORT
• Browse, search and filter all sightings by species, plot, notes or date
• Export any date range to CSV with exactly the columns you choose — ready for Excel, R or QGIS
• Logging works offline, and your records are never uploaded unless you choose to

BACKUP & RESTORE
• Back up sightings and your species to a Google Sheet in your own Google Drive, manually or on a schedule (Pro)
• Restore on a new phone, merging or replacing

AI FIELD ASSISTANT (optional)
• Describe a bird in plain words and get likely species; paste a rough field note and let it fill the log form
• Bring your own free OpenRouter key — nothing is sent until you ask

FREE, WITH PRO
The first 3 days include every Pro feature, free, no payment details needed. After that Canopy Survey stays free with ads and up to 2 species of your own. Canopy Survey Pro (monthly or yearly subscription) removes ads and unlocks unlimited species, species CSV import and automatic Drive backup. Logging, GPS, CSV export and manual backup are always free.
