Messages that stay between you two.

Zuno is a free, open-source chat app for friends, family and communities. It works with any Matrix server: create an account on zuno.chat, sign in to the server you already use, or run your own. Chat with everyone on your server, whatever Matrix app they use.

Private by default
• Chats and calls are end-to-end encrypted.
• Notifications carry no message text through Google.
• Choose how much a notification shows.
• Block screenshots and screen recording, and hide Zuno in recent apps.
• Incognito keyboard asks your keyboard not to learn what you type.
• Verify a device by scanning a code or comparing emoji.
• A recovery code keeps your message history safe if you lose a device.
• Crash reports stay off unless you turn them on.

What you can do
• Chat one-to-one, or in rooms for groups
• Bring related rooms together in a community
• Make voice and video calls, one-to-one or in a group
• Keep a call in picture-in-picture while you do something else
• Send photos, videos, files and voice messages
• Send your location, or share it live
• React, reply and edit
• Share from other apps straight into a chat
• Sign in on a new device with a code from one already signed in
• Get notifications without Google, through UnifiedPush or background sync

Accounts
• Zuno never asks for a phone number. Sign-up is a username and a password.
• Where the server sends a sign-up code, the email address is used only for that code and is not stored with the account.
• A username containing a real name still identifies someone.
• Zuno cannot reset a lost password. Keep your password and recovery code safe.

Limits
• Zuno reaches people on your own server only, not on other servers.
• Encryption protects what people say. It does not hide that they talked.
• It cannot stop someone taking a screenshot, or protect a compromised device.
• Calls need a server set up for Zuno, such as zuno.chat.
• On other servers, choose UnifiedPush or background sync for notifications.
