Contact Lookup

SoftWyer
This is an extension to the Android search facility that lets you search your contacts.

Whilst Android includes a native contact search, it will only search for names, and not parts of numbers or addresses (although it's getting better with each OS upgrade)

Contact Lookup will look in MOST of the contact category fields for your search terms, although it doesn't search Notes.

Includes powerful search modes including a true AND search that works across categories.

THERE IS A PAID VARIANT, full details of which can be found on the developers website (click the link below if browsing through the market). The free version is considered to be 'feature complete' and will NOT be updated, whereas the paid version enjoys the regular addition of new features.

- Uses the whole screen on larger devices.
- Improved phone number search.

Contact View
------------

Contact View is a companion application developed by SoftWyer that is based upon the default Android viewer to provide a more clear view of the contacts. To use Contact View with Contact Lookup you must install it from the Android Market.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.softwyer.contactview

Contact Editor
--------------

A third party application provides the default Android editor that works well with the SoftWyer suite of contact applications.

https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.android.contacts

--------------------

This application requires Internet permissions to enable adverts to be shown.

Contact View Free

SoftWyer
View your contact's details in a clear format allowing you to see, for example, all the address and note details.

Details
=========================
This application works on any phone with OS 2.1+, but is especially useful for owners of a HTC device if they want to view full contact details.

It's not a replacement for the built-in Contact Manager. It's purely to view the contact details in a clearer format.

Tablet Users/ HTC users
=========================
If you are using a tablet with OS 4.0 or greater and NOT any of the Contact Lookup applications, then you won't be able to use this application as the default people application does not allow you to view contacts with another application. This also affects some later HTC devices (e.g. HTC Desire X OS4.0.4)

Instructions
=========================
To use Contact View either run the Contact Lookup applications and press on the contact result or view a contact from the default contact manager.

Contact Lookup Pro and Contact Lookup Fast can use this view as the default via a preference in the menu settings. Initially users of these applications may have to LONG-PRESS to see Contact View. These users also have access to the settings menu.

Supports more fields than the stock contacts view, including:

- Name
- Nickname
- Phone number
- Email address
- Instant Messaging (chat)
- Organisation
- Events
- Relationships
- Websites
- Groups
- Gmail Custom Fields

Highlighted Search Text
=======================
If you use Contact View with Contact Lookup Pro/Fast, then any search text is highlighted in Contact View.

HTML in Notes
=========================
Simple HTML used in notes is rendered correctly allowing colours, styles and clickable links.

Actions
=========================
You can press the list elements for some context sensitive actions if these are supported by your device. This includes dialling, SMS, chat (IM), email, websites and maps integration.

Pressing a group can Email or SMS the group members. (Needs Contact Lookup Pro or Fast version)

Long-pressing an item will copy the data to the clipboard.

If you press the contact name banner, it will open the default contact edit application.

If you press the contact's favourite star, it will open the default contact view from where you can set the favourite status.

Swipe left or right to page through the results of the search from Contact Lookup Application screen. You can also use the left and right icons. You can also do this via the Quick Search Box, but due to limits imposed by QSB you will only see a maximum of ~50 records.

Long-pressing on the arrows will move to the start or end of the contacts. This can be configured from the menu to move 5, 10, 25 or 50 pages.

Tips
=========================
Some devices do not allow relationships to be entered directly on the device. However, you can enter this detail using the Gmail contact editor on the web. Access your web based Gmail account here -> https://mail.google.com

Contact Lookup (free) Limitations:
=========================
- Max 20 contacts in the view.
- Adverts
- Cannot choose to override the default sort.
- Cannot set the theme
- No access to the settings menu

Users of Contact Lookup Pro or Contact Lookup Fast do not have these limitations.

Can't view Contact Details?
=========================
If you've tried to view a contact's details using your native contacts application, and have not been prompted to use Contact View, then you will need to clear the application defaults FOR YOUR CONTACT APPLICATION (i.e People, Contacts, etc.) Read this for a detailed explanation on how to do this -> http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/43135/how-to-change-the-default-application-for-android-tasks/

Required Permissions:
=========================
INTERNET - To enable the display of adverts.
CALL_PHONE - To enable one-touch dialling
READ_CONTACTS - To show the contact data

Tune Announcer

SoftWyer
Speaks the Songs and Toasts the Tracks.

ANNOUNCER

Tune Announcer speaks the track name and artist when playing music using the built in media players, or others that support scrobbling.

It's useful if you have a large music collection and cannot see the screen to check the names, e.g whilst exercising.

It uses the native Text-to-Speech capabilities of the device to speak. If you don't like the way it speaks, or pronounces words, then download an alternative TTS provider for your device. Try the SVOX ones, they may be better!

TOASTER

Tune Announcer also toasts the song details whilst speaking. Shows the album cover, track name, artist and album name. The free version only lightly toasts, about 1/3 of the time. For well done toasts, go Pro.

The details of the tune pop up are large enough to be read comfortably and safely whilst driving.

Toasts can be enabled and disabled independently of the Announcements.

Pro version is available with additional functionality:

- no adverts
- toggle widget for speech
- notification icon
- configure the application to ignore certain characters and symbols when speaking.
- well done toast
- speak album name
- free format speech mode allows you to choose what parts to say and where to place them.
- option to ignore all text in brackets when speaking.
- tasker support to enable or disable toasting and announcements
- force all speech to be in English (British)
- limited support for Google Music
- speak at the end of the track, rather than the beginning
- network based speech synthesis for a more natural speech sound

See the website for more details.

Text To Speech
==============

Your device MUST support Text to Speech and be configured to use it. Tune Announcer won't work if you haven't configured Text to Speech. Check your Settings under Language and ensure that Text to Speech works.

Scobbling
=========

For Tune Announcer to work, your music player MUST support SCROBBLING. Tune Announcer supports a variety of common scrobble formats and will work with most players that implement scrobbling. Some players require that you enable scrobbling in their settings. Furthermore, some players won't scrobble unless you install the LastFM scrobble client. Usually, it is enough just to install it, you don't always need to register with LastFM to scrobble.

Turn on Tune Announcer's debug mode and play music. If you don't get any 'toast' messages with debug scrobble information, then your music player is not scrobbling. Either change your music player's settings, or change your music player. Tune Announcer is NOT psychic, it requires the player to scrobble.

To speak, your device must have an Text-to-Speech service built in. All modern Android OS's will have this, though you may need to enable or download the speech libraries. Check your Android OS Settings under Language and Input.

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, CONTACT THE DEVELOPERS. IT CAN'T BE FIXED IF YOU DON'T REPORT THE PROBLEM. Leaving a comment below saying it 'doesn't work' is useless and helps no-one -> we're looking at you Xperia folks in particular. If you've got time to leave a negative comment, then you've got time to email.

YANC - Yet Another Night Clock

SoftWyer
Yet Another Night Clock

So, you've upgrade from that HTC Desire to a shiny new HTC Sensation, turn on the night clock and wtf? They've ruined the HTC night clock.

This is a replacement that emulates the behaviour of the old version.

Differences:

- Much dimmer
- Animates the time around the screen every 30 seconds
- Touching the screen brightens it for 5 seconds

It's been tested on HTC's Desire and Sensation as well as Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4. It should work on other devices but YMMV.

It dims the soft-buttons on HTC Desire, HTC Sensation (OS2), Nexus 4 and the Galaxy Nexus, it might work on other devices too.

====

Differences between Pro and Free versions?

- Turn off the device instead of dimming and wave your palm over the screen to wake it up and show the time (saves battery)
- Set the dimmed and touched screen brightness
- Set the dimmed and touched text colour
- Stay awake option on battery and power.
- Change the font size of the time.
- Change the relative font size of the date and alarm.
- Change the animation times from 5 to 120 seconds.
- Option to control hiding icons when dimmed.
- Show the status bar when the screen is touched (allows you to check your notifications)
- YANC Pro pops to the front when power is connected.
- Always on option with Sun/Moon display
- Do Not Disturb option to disable Ringer and Notifications whilst YANC is displayed.

====

Tips:

- To keep your phone on whilst plugged in, ensure that you've turned on Settings->(Applications->)Development->Stay Awake. Alternatively get the Pro version - It's less than 1/2 the price of a coffee!

====

So why write another one? Couldn't find a free version that did exactly what I wanted. This version was close (https://market.android.com/details?id=at.nk.nightClock) but didn't cope with the Auto-Brightness feature of HTC's

====

Permissions

It needs to be able to read and write Settings to turn off Auto-Brightness otherwise it will not dim the screen.

Finance Free

SoftWyer
Finance is an application that allows you to track your income and expenditure. It works in a similar manner to Microsoft Money or Intuit Quicken.

The goal of Finance is to enable quick and easy transaction entry with clear screens and, hopefully, intuitive options.

We strongly recommend that you read more about Finance in the user manual here http://softwyer.wordpress.com/finance-manual/. Whilst we've tried to make this a 'simple' application, it is a full-featured finance application that requires a basic understanding of the financial terms used.

====

The free version is AD SUPPORTED and has the following functionality:

- Manage Accounts
- Manage Payees
- Manage Categories
- Manage Transactions
- Search Transactions
- Scheduled Transactions (*limited to 5*)
- Charts with dynamic effects
- Email facility for charts so that they can be printed from the PC browser.
- Enhanced layout for tablet devices.
- AUTO-FILL when entering transactions.
- Backup your Finance Data to Google Drive secure cloud storage

Auto-fill populates your transaction with the details of a similar transaction, thus leaving you to enter just the date and amount.

It works by looking at your transaction history and will get better as you enter more transactions. By default, auto-fill works with payees, but can also work with categories or accounts!

===

Google Drive backup may not work for all devices. You may need to install Google Play services so that your account can be authenticated with Google. Please email us with any problems.

===

There is also a paid version that has the following additional features:

+ Account reconciliation
+ More charting options
+ QIF import
+ Quick entry transaction widget for the Home Screen.
+ No adverts
+ No limits for scheduled transactions

====

CHARTS AND OS2.x.

The charts are HTML based and used Scalable Vector Graphics. This is natively supported in OS3+ OS2.x users need to use an external browser to see the charts. We recommend Opera Mobile which can be downloaded for free from the market here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser&hl=en

Note also that OS2.x users will need a network connection to download the required Javascript libraries.

====

PERMISSIONS

GET ACCOUNTS permission so that it can prompt with accounts names when using Google Drive.
NETWORK permission so that it can source advert data.

PROBLEMS, CRASHES and REQUESTS

Tune Announcer Pro

SoftWyer
ANNOUNCER

This application speaks the track name, artist and album title when playing music using the default media players, or others that support scrobbling.

The details of the tune pop up are large enough to be comfortably and safely read whilst driving.

Toasts can be enabled and disabled independently of the Announcements.

TASKER Support

Tasker can be used to create Action Intent Tasks that enable or disable Tune Pop and Announcements. See this blog for more details : http://softwyer.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/tasker-support-for-tune-announcer-pro/

Pro version has:

- toggle widget
- notification icon
- configure the application to ignore certain characters and symbols when speaking.
- option to ignore all text in brackets () & []
- well done toast
- speak in English option (British)
- speak album name
- free format speech mode allows you to choose what parts to say and where to place them.
- tasker support.
- speak at the end of the track, rather than the beginning.
- Google's network sourced speech synthesis

SPEAK AT END OF TRACK

This relies on the track containing a reasonable estimate of the time as well as it being scrobbled correctly. Scrobble Droid, Google Music, Double Twist and the Built in Android/HTC players all seem to be OK for scrobbling track length.

If you fast forward through a track, or pause it, then there will be no speech at the end. Android does not scrobble this information.

Toasts always appear at the start of the track, regardless of 'speak at end' setting.

SPEECH VOLUME

On some devices the speech volume can be quiet, especially when played through headphones or over bluetooth. Unfortunately this is a limitation of the device and Android OS. We can't fix these problems so please try the free version before buying the paid version.

PRE-REQUISITES

As always, please email us with any issues so that we can fix them! Feature requests are always welcome.

YANC Pro

SoftWyer
Yet Another Night Clock, Pro Version

*Cool new feature*

Wake the phone from sleep by waving your hand over the screen.

Features (compared to the old HTC night clock):

- Much dimmer
- Moves the time around the screen every minute
- Touching the screen brightens it for 5 seconds
- Shows the time of the next alarm
- Change text colours
- Do Not Disturb option to mute ringer and notifications (Alarm still rings)

Try the free version first to check if all the dimming and alarm features work on your phone.

Visit our website for more information http://softwyer.wordpress.com/2011/06/24/introducing-yanc/

====

Differences between Pro and Free versions?

- Option to turn off the screen and only show the time if you wave your hand over the device (uses the proximity sensor)
- Set the dimmed and touched screen dimness
- Set the dimmed and touched text colour
- Time change animates digit roll-over.
- Stay awake option on battery and power.
- Option to show the status bar when the screen is touched (to see/check your notifications)
- Option to pop YANC Pro to the front when power is connected, after a certain time.
- Long-press the time to toggle between an always on 'day mode' and the normal night clock. Note that day mode will dim with your normal Android screen dimming settings.
- Do Not Disturb option to mute Ringer and Notification. An icon is shown in the display when this is enabled

Some Notes about Stay Awake
===========================

The Stay Awake option will allow YANC to keep running, when it is on battery. A battery level indicator, shown next to the date, indicates that you have Stay Awake enabled.

If you are on battery and the battery level drops below 25%, then the device will remove the wake lock and it should switch off after the normal screen timeout.

Please test this feature, at a non-critical time, to ensure that this works on your device. Whilst we've taken every precaution to ensure this works, we cannot be held responsible if you leave this running and it drains your battery making you late for your wedding/work/lottery purchase/Mother-in-Law visit (*)

* Delete as appropriate or replace with worst case scenario.

HTC Sensation + ICS + Button Dimming

There is no easy solution for this as HTC appear to have hardwired the light sensor to the buttons. However, there are some things you can do to work around this if you want button dimming:

1) You can't use 'Auto' light sensor. So turn this off in the Settings->Display.
2) You can't start YANC in the dark and have button dimming. Start YANC in a normally lit room and let it timeout. The buttons should dim too. You can now turn off the lights, sleep tight. However, if you touch the screen in the dark, the buttons will remain lit.

If the button dimming isn't working, even in the light, then start YANC and press the power button to switch off the phone. It should go to the lock screen and you can then navigate back to YANC. Button dimming should now work.

====

So why write another one? We couldn't find a free version that did exactly what I wanted.

====

Permissions

It needs to be able to read and write Settings to turn off Auto-Brightness otherwise it will not dim the screen.

The ability to turn off the screen requires a Device Administrator permission.

It uses a Wake Lock to keep the screen on.

Finance

SoftWyer
Finance is an application that allows you to track your income and expenditure. It works in a similar manner to Microsoft Money or Intuit Quicken.

The goal of Finance is to enable quick and easy transaction entry with clear screens and, hopefully, intuitive options.

Read more about Finance in the user manual here http://softwyer.wordpress.com/finance-manual/

Try the free version first. You can get a feel for the application and they share the same data file, so can move from free to paid easily.

====

The paid version is similar to the free version but has no adverts and some extra features, shown below with a '+' symbol:

- Manage Accounts
- Manage Payees
- Manage Categories
- Manage Transactions
- Search Transactions
+ Create Scheduled Transactions (free limited to just 5)
- Charts with dynamic effects
- Email facility for charts so that they can be printed from the PC browser.
- Enhanced layout for tablet devices.
- AUTO-FILL when entering transactions.
+ Account reconciliation
+ QIF import
+ Quick entry transaction widget for the Home Screen.

If you have previously installed the free version, then you can safely uninstall it as it is *not* required for the paid version to work. You will not lose any data if you uninstall the applications.
