New Canva features to ace this school year

Since launching in 2019, Canva Education has made teaching and learning more colorful. Now, with over 100 million students and teachers using the app monthly and premium access for all K-12 schools at no extra cost, the app keeps getting better and better. Read on for new features designed to transform your classroom, both online and IRL, and get your students excited to learn.

Imagine crafting personalized classroom activities tailored to your students with just a single prompt. New for this school year, Canva has introduced Magic Activities: a generative AI feature built for educators to create easy and engaging learning experiences. Under your home tab, tap “Education” and then “Magic Activities” to get started.

In the prompt box, describe the topic you want your students to work on, like the life cycle of a butterfly, and add details such as your learning goals. Once you’ve entered your prompt, you’ll be able to choose the activity that best fits your class, like a process map, cause-and-effect chain, or other worksheets to challenge your students.

Once you’re happy with an activity, tap the share icon in the upper-right corner to assign to students via a link or directly through your school’s Canva Education network. Each student will receive their own copy of the activity.

Want an easy way to boost student interaction and gather instant feedback? You can now add polls and quizzes to any Canva project, from presentations to brainstorming whiteboards. For sensitive topics like wellbeing check-ins, you can even collect anonymous responses, ensuring student privacy and encouraging honest feedback.

First, open any project and decide where you want to add a poll or quiz. Then, tap “Elements” on the toolbar and select a design under “Polls & Quizzes.” Edit your question, indicate the correct response, or even add an animation to draw students’ attention. Once you’ve shared the presentation, they’ll be able to answer individually, and you can access their answers by tapping “Responses.”

With AI tools such as Magic Media for visuals and Canva Code for programming fully integrated into the Canva suite, your all-around creative teaching assistant is better equipped than ever. Using simple prompts, you’ll be able to create classroom-ready materials, from presentation visuals to fun games and engaging activities.

Simply tap “AI” on the home tab and describe your idea in the prompt box, like “create an interactive memory game as a first-day-of-school icebreaker” or “create a class portrait of everyone’s favorite animals.” The app will then generate options for you, and once you’re happy with the output, tap “Use in a design” to integrate it into the Canva project that works best for your class.
