Character abilities in Free Fire explained

As you begin to build your preset character in Free Fire, you're going to see four ability options. If you're just getting started, you might need to learn the difference between an Active or Passive ability or better understand the four different functional categories these abilities fit into. With this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know about ability types.

Active skills

Active skills are ones you can choose to trigger during a match, rather than having them always on. Alok, for instance, can create a two-meter-wide aura field for five seconds, during which he and all teammates will see gradual health regeneration and increased movement speed while inside the aura. You can add one Active skill to your preset.

Passive skills

Passive abilities don’t need to be activated in order to gain a boost. They strengthen your character continually for as long as they're on the battlefield. You can equip up to three Passive skills to a character preset. For instance, Andrew has a passive ability that reduces damage taken for any piece of armor he wears. Maxim, meanwhile, is able to consume food items and Med Kits more quickly.

Teamwork skills

Some characters’ abilities affect your entire squad, instead of just them. If you play a lot of group matches, you should have at least one Teamwork ability in your preset to multiply and maximize your buffs. Olivia, for example, has a fantastic Teamwork ability, Healing Touch, where she distributes extra HP to the teammates she’s reviving.

Survival skills

Survival abilities focus solely on attributes that affect your performance in battle. These will increase things involving health boosts, stealth, or even specific statistics. For instance, Wukong’s one-off Camouflage activation helps him hide as a bush to avoid being caught. Survival abilities, as the name suggests, are built to keep you in the game for as long as possible.

Attack skills

Attack abilities are all about offense, as they increase damage, decrease reload speed, or enhance accuracy. These abilities may also improve performance for specific types of weapons, like Rin’s Gale of Kunai that summons kunai and autotargets enemies and Gloo Wall. If you're looking for abilities that make you a better elimination machine, these are where you should be looking.

Info skills

Info abilities will make you the scout of the team by gathering information and sharing it automatically with your teammates. These perks are less about scoring direct kills and more about learning everything there is to know about your opponents. Clu, for example, can instantly reveal any enemy who isn't in a crouching or prone position to everyone else on the team.
