How to improve climbing in Genshin Impact

You'll spend a lot of time scaling cliffs and walls to get where you're going as you travel around Genshin Impact's world of Teyvat. You can climb just about anything as long as you have the stamina, and running out of it while you're halfway up a cliff can be both dangerous and frustrating. Luckily, there are some handy ways to improve your climbing skills.

How climbing works

You'll be spending stamina whenever you climb a surface, which is indicated by a green bar that appears while you're in action. Climbing at a normal rate is ideal as it uses your stamina slowly. while jumping in any direction while climbing, allows you to move quickly but at a bigger cost. Often, it's better to move slowly than to jump to make your stamina last a little longer.
Running out of stamina causes you to fall off mid-climb. If you fall a long way, you'll take fatal damage when you hit the ground. You can replenish it whenever you stand still on a surface, so look out for flat ledges or outcrops where you can safely replenish stamina before continuing your climb.

Increasing stamina is key

In order to climb longer and tougher surfaces, you'll need to increase your overall stamina. But unlike other stats, it can’t be boosted by leveling up your characters. Instead, you'll have to seek out specific items in the world in order to see improvement.
To increase your stamina, you need to visit the Statues of the Seven scattered around Teyvat. You can find these early in the game in Mondstadt. Visiting one gives you the option to make an offering of an object called "Oculus". This provides you with lots of useful rewards, and the most important of which is an increase to your overall stamina. It pays to find all the statues in a region and to hunt down as many Oculi as possible.

How to find Oculi

You can find Oculi hidden across the open world. They often require you to climb to certain heights or slip into secret areas to reach them. Each one is specific to the region you find them in: Mondstadt has green Anemoculus, while Liyue has yellow Geoculus, for example. To level up a Statue of the Seven, you’ll need to offer the right kind of Oculus for its region.
Check your minimap while exploring, as white icons appear when you're near an Oculus. Look for them up high, on rooftops, trees, or other places that would require a bit of a challenging climb to reach. They can also sometimes be hidden inside structures or underground. Searching for them can be a puzzle, but the power-ups and rewards make it worth the effort.

Cook food to make climbing easier

Collecting Oculi is a big endeavor, but there are ways to get your stamina back immediately, particularly on a tough climb. Cooking gives you access to food that can temporarily increase your overall stamina, reduce its consumption, or restore it instantly.
You'll need to gather recipes to unlock food that you can cook. Once a dish is in your inventory, you can eat it right away to get its benefits. Make sure to consume the right one for the job: food that boosts your stamina or decreases its usage is best eaten right before you start climbing, while stamina-restoring food should be saved for mid-climb moments to keep you going.

Climbing talents give you a boost

Talents are passive abilities some characters have that give you a boost in certain activities. Some make climbing a little easier by reducing stamina usage. As long as a character with the climbing talent is on your team, all members will receive the benefit. Check talents in the character menu and swap in anyone who can help you before a difficult climb to make things easier.
