Customise your phone's display settings

You can adjust your Android phone settings to better suit your visual needs. Here's how to make reading text and viewing media on your screen a breeze.

Note: Instructions and settings may vary by manufacturer and model.

Change text size and more

Go easy on your eyes and make text stand out by customising your font size, boldness and colour contrast. On a Samsung device, go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements. If you're on a Pixel, you'll find your device's font and display-size settings in Settings > Accessibility > Display size and text.

Zoom in on your screen

Whether you're reading or typing, view text more easily by magnifying it. Just open your settings and tap Accessibility > Vision enhancements > Magnification (or Accessibility > Magnification if you're on a Pixel), then toggle on 'Magnification shortcut'.

You can adjust the other options – such as full or partial screen magnification, and whether to keep magnifying when you switch between apps – according to your preferences. Make sure that you read the instructions at the bottom of the Magnification menu to learn more about how to zoom in.
Tip
Tap 'Magnification shortcut' to change your shortcut from the accessibility button to volume keys or a triple-tap.

Correct the colour

If you struggle to see certain colours or want to remove colours to enhance your focus, try colour correction. Just go to your accessibility settings and tap 'Vision enhancements' (or 'Colour and motion' on Pixel devices), followed by 'Colour correction'. From there, you can preview different colour schemes – including Greyscale – and choose the one that's right for you.
Tip
Turn on the shortcut so that you can switch colour correction on and off quickly by tapping the accessibility button.

Tone down the glare

Adjust your phone's brightness by swiping down from the top of your screen (swipe down twice on a Pixel), then using the slider to brighten or darken it. You can also toggle on 'Extra dim' in your accessibility settings to dim your screen to a more comfortable level automatically. To do this, tap 'Extra dim' to alter its intensity manually.
Tip
Want to dim your screen automatically without needing to swipe through your settings? Just toggle on the extra dim shortcut.

Listen to your phone screen

If ever you struggle to see text, icons and other items on your phone, you can select areas of your screen to be read aloud using TalkBack. Enable it by tapping Accessibility > TalkBack, then toggling it on (or by toggling on 'Use TalkBack' on Pixel devices). When prompted, allow TalkBack to have full control of your phone. Then follow the short tutorial to learn how to use it.
